Freedom From Addiction Services

The Bellevue Hospital Foundation "Freedom From Addiction" Fund has been started in response to the growing substance use disorder epidemic. The fund is in its infancy and guidelines are being developed. Continue to watch this site for additional information.

In response to the increase of Substance Use Disorder, The Bellevue Hospital has formed a new group, the Substance Use Disorder Task Force, to begin looking at ways to reach out to our community and make an impact for improvement. The Bellevue Hospital now serves as a donation drop off location and a "Blessing Bag" pick-up location. The Blessing Bags are filled with food, toiletries, clothing, inspirational items, and information on Substance Use Disorder and resources available for those in need. Blessing bags may be picked up in The Bellevue Hospital's Emergency Department.

The Bellevue Hospital's Substance Use Disorder task force also offers an informational presentation designed to educate community members and local civic groups on the local substance abuse statistics, the brain chemistry of addiction, medically assisted treatments, the stigma associated with substance use, and how to respond to someone with a Substance Use Disorder.

The Bellevue Hospital is also on the list of locations offering free drug test kits from Huron County Community Health Partners. The kits are intended to allow parents to drug test their children if they suspect illegal drug usage, as well as provide an opportunity for open discussion. The drug kits can be picked up anonymously for no cost in The Bellevue Hospital's Emergency Department. Only adults over 18 years of age can pick up drug kits. When individuals pick up a drug test kit, they will be taught how to use the test and given education on what to do if the test is positive. Parents will be encouraged to start a conversation with their child about drug use and maintain those lines of communications. They will also be given a pamphlet and an anonymous survey on how well and easily the kit worked. Parents can also seek referral to treatment if needed.

If you are interested in scheduling a presentation by TBH's Substance Use Disorder Task Force for your next event of civic group meeting, or would like more information on the Blessing Bag project or the drug kits, please call The Bellevue Hospital at 419.483.4040, Ext. 4685.
